Maria Pollaro scored the game-winner in overtime

NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Maria Pollaro (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scored from 10 yards out with 5:36 remaining in the first overtime as the University of Delaware women's soccer team defeated Vermont, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Delaware Field.

Delaware (8-1-1, 1-0) dominated play throughout the second half, outshooting the Catamounts (2-6, 0-2) 10-3 in the period. However, the Blue Hens could not get anything past Vermont goalkeeper Katie Duffy, who made eight saves in the contest.

In overtime, the ball was sent in front of the goal to Pollaro, who beat Duffy from the right side. The goal was Pollaro's first in her college career.

Freshman goalkeeper Erin Johnson improved to 3-0 and recorded her first collegiate shutout in the win. Johnson made five saves on the afternoon.

Delaware will return to action Friday when the Blue Hens host America East rival Towson at 4 p.m. at Delaware Field.
