Pollaro scored the game-winner in
overtime

NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore
Maria Pollaro (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) scored from 10
yards out with 5:36 remaining in the first overtime as the
University of Delaware women's soccer team defeated Vermont,
1-0, Sunday afternoon at Delaware Field.
Delaware (8-1-1, 1-0)
dominated play throughout the second half, outshooting the
Catamounts (2-6, 0-2) 10-3 in the period. However, the Blue
Hens could not get anything past Vermont goalkeeper Katie
Duffy, who made eight saves in the contest.
In overtime, the ball was sent
in front of the goal to Pollaro, who beat Duffy from the
right side. The goal was Pollaro's first in her college
career.
Freshman goalkeeper Erin
Johnson improved to 3-0 and recorded her first
collegiate shutout in the win. Johnson made five saves on
the afternoon.
Delaware will return to action
Friday when the Blue Hens host America East rival Towson at
4 p.m. at Delaware Field.
