Blood's Big Week
Continues as Hens Triumph
NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Caryn Blood scored two goals and assisted on a third as University of Delaware topped University at Albany, 3-0, in women's soccer action at Delaware Mini-Stadium on Friday evening. Blood, a native of Red Bank, NJ who transferred to Delaware from University of Miami (FL) over the summer, continued her big week by recording her fifth and sixth goals of the season and now has a team-best 14 points. Blood scored the game-winner in double-overtime Wednesday night as Delaware topped Old Dominion. Delaware (6-5-0, 2-3-0) scored twice in the first half while outshooting Albany, 19-1, in the half. Blood opened the scoring 6:27 into the game when she beat goalkeeper Beth Spinelli at the top of the box and popped the ball into a wide-open net. Stacey Lukens gave Delaware a 2-0 advantage at 35:31 when she scored her fourth goal of the season off a nifty pass by Blood. Ginette Buffone also assisted on the goal, her America East-leading 11th of the season. Blood scored again with 39:37 remaining in the game. Off a free kick, Megan McFadden hit a beautiful lob from 35 yards out that found Blood, who tapped it home for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Of her 14 points this season, Blood has recorded 10 of those in America East games. Delaware outshot Albany, 27-3, for the game. Spinelli kept Albany (1-9-0, 0-5-0) close in recording 14 saves, including a diving save on a Brittany Campbell penalty kick in the first half.
