NEWARK, DE -- Megan Cross had
a goal and an assist to spark Boston University to a 3-1 win
over Delaware in America East women's soccer action Sunday
afternoon.
The win kept Boston University
atop America East with a 5-0-1 mark in league play, 6-4-1
overall. Delaware fell to 4-5, 1-3 in America
East.
Cross opened the scoring when
she scored her first goal of the season off a penalty kick
at 10:58. A Boston University player was taken down in the
box, resulting in the penalty kick. Cross went low and to
the right of Delaware keeper Rachel Bersin. Bersin got a
piece of the ball, but not enough to prevent it from going
into the goal.
The Terriers took a 2-0 lead
when Melissa Shulman popped in a rebound of a Cross shot at
21:29.
Delaware pulled to within one
early in the second half. Just 3:11 into the half, Megan
McFadden scored from 10 yards out off a Sara Wilson
feed.
However, the Terriers took a
3-1 lead when Lesley Garvey hit a ball from 30 yards out
that went just out of Bersin's reach and over her head into
the net.
Boston University outshot
Delaware, 17-12. Delaware held a 4-1 advantage in corner
kicks.
The Blue Hens will continue
their nine-game homestand when they host Old Dominion on
Wednesday at 3 p.m.
