NEWARK, DE-- In a game
highlighted by its goaltending, the University of Delaware
and Drexel tied, 1-1, Sunday afternoon at the Mini-stadium.
Drexel goalie Sara Peranteau
and Delaware's Andrea Lunn (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet)
exchanged diving stops all day. Lunn finished with seven
saves while Peranteau recorded nine.
Delaware got on the board
early in the second-half when Caryn Blood scored her
eighth goal of the season, putting a header in the net off a
Ginna Lewing pass.
With four minutes left in
regulation, Drexel's (5-9-2, 2-4-2) Corinne Schauffele tied
the game, leaping out of a group to head in the Kristi
Manidis direct kick.
The Hens had an excellent
chance to win the contest in the 88th minute of play as a
Megan McFadden deflection was covered a diving
Peranteau inches in front of the goal line.
It was Delaware's (7-6-1,
3-4-1) first tie of the 2001 season.
Delaware hosts Mount St.
Mary's at 7p.m. Wednesday night. It will be the Blue Hens'
final game at the Mini-Stadium this season.
