NEWARK, DE -- A
University of Delaware rally came up short as George Mason
University defeated the Blue Hens, 3-2, in women's soccer
action Wednesday night at the Mini-Stadium. It was the
first-ever meeting between the two future Colonial Athletic
Association rivals.
Delaware mounted an impressive
comeback after falling behind 2-0 at halftime. Junior
Brittany Campbell, the current America East Player of
the Week, sent a crossing pass to Francesca Termini,
who put a header past the GMU keeper. Six minutes later,
Christine Wrightson scored off a Ginette
Buffone corner kick to tie the game at 2-2.
The Delaware comeback was to
be for not as George Mason (3-4-1) freshman Sarah Wilkinson
put a shot off the hands of Hen goalie Andrea Lunn
for the game-winning score.
Patriot keeper Naomi Hines
held off the Hens the rest of the way, finishing the night
with nine saves.
The Blue Hens return to action
Friday night as they take on Northeastern University at 8
p.m, as part of a men's-womens soccer doubleheader at the
Delaware Mini-Stadium.
