Second half surge
leads Hens past Pride, 3-0
NEWARK, DE-- The
University of Delaware women's soccer team scored three
goals in a five minute span in the second half, to defeat
Hofstra University, 3-0, in America East action Friday night
at the Mini-Stadium.
After a scoreless first half,
the Hens dominated the second half. Junior Brittany
Campbell deflected a Christine Wrightson shot in
front of the net for the first score of the game 60 minutes
into play.
The second score did not take
long, as Delaware's Caryn Blood scored her
team-leading seventh goal two minutes later, beating the
Hofstra (5-5-2, 2-3-2) goalie to the right side of the net
off a penalty kick.
The Blue Hens scored on their
third straight shot when Sara Wilson headed a
Megan McFadden corner kick to the back of the net
three minutes later giving UD a three goal advantage.
The Hen defense looked
impressive as it held the Pride to just three shots in the
second half. Goaltender Andrea Lunn recorded a pair
of saves to notch her second shutout of the
season.
Sunday is Senior Day at
Delaware Mini-Stadium, as Delaware (7-6, 3-4) takes on
America East foe, Drexel at 1 p.m.
