Bersin stops five in shutout effort

Rachel Bersin moved into a tie for No. 2 in saves all-time at UD with 178.

NEWARK, DE -- Christine Wrightson and Brittany Campbell scored goals as the University of Delaware's women's soccer team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 2-0, at the Mini-Stadium on Wednesday night.

After being shutout in the first half for the fourth straight game, the Blue Hen offense got on the board mid-way through the second half. Wrightson scored her third goal of the season after a Trisha Breault shot bounced off the Mountaineer keeper to take the 1-0 lead.

The Hens added an insurance goal with 11 minutes to play when Brittany Campbell beat a drawn out goalie for her seventh goal of the year. Campbell also assisted on the Wrightson goal.

Blue Hen keeper Rachel Bersin stopped five shots in recording the shutout, her second of the season.

UD recorded a season-high 27 shots.

Naomi Campbell recorded six saves in goal for Mount St. Mary's (1-13).

Wednesday night was the Blue Hens' final home game of the season. Delaware (8-6-1) heads north for a pair of America East battles this weekend with big playoff implications. The seventh-place Hens travel to fifth-place Maine on Friday and third-place New Hampshire on Sunday. The top six teams qualify for America East Championship, which begins November 7.
