NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore
midfielder Caryn Blood scored twice in the first half as the
University of Delaware women's soccer team defeated
Northeastern, 4-2, in America East action at Delaware
Mini-Stadium Friday night.
Blood, who transferred to
Delaware from University of Miami last summer, scored just
2:36 into the game and then again with 1:54 remaining in the
half. She now has seven points on the season (3g,
1a).
After Blood gave Delaware
(4-4-0, 1-2-0 America East) an early 1-0 lead, scoring off a
feed from Megan McFadden, Northeastern's Melissa Cohen tied
the game at 19:54 off a cross from Liz Dyjack.
The Blue Hens, however, took a
3-1 lead into intermission on a pair of late goals. Sara
Wilson scored off a deflection with 5:04 remaining in the
half, and Blood's second tally of the night on a header gave
the Blue Hens a two-goal lead.
Brittany Campbell, who had
assisted on Blood's second goal, gave Delaware a 4-1 lead
with 29:44 left in the game off Ginette Buffone's second
assist of the night and an assist from Ginna Lewing, who
started the play off the corner kick
Jennifer North scored off a
rebound with just under 10 minutes remaining, but it was too
little, too late for Northeastern (5-2-1, 1-2-1).
Delaware will host defending
America East champion Boston University Sunday at 3
p.m.
