Towson Too Much for
Blue Hens.
BALTIMORE, MD -- Towson
University scored three second-half goals to defeat the
University of Delaware, 3-0, in women's soccer Saturday
afternoon at Towson Center Field. It was the final regular
season game for both teams.
Towson's Mandy Zachman broke
up the scoreless tie in the 51st minute, scoring with a
header off a Jessie Whippo corner kick. Melissa Mueller and
Maggie Lennon each added a goal to give the Tigers a
three-goal advantage. Towson controlled the game outshooting
UD, 15-8.
Delaware finishes the regular
season with an overall record of 10-7-1, 5-5-1 in America
East Conference play.
Despite the loss, Delaware
will join Towson (6-9-2, 5-5-1) in the America East
Tournament. The sixth-seeded Tigers will travel to No. 3
Hofstra for a 1 p.m. start Tuesday. Hofstra beat Towson on
Oct. 21, 2-1, in Baltimore.
The University of Delaware
enters as a No. 4 seed and will host fifth-seeded New
Hampshire Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Mini-Stadium. The Hens
defeated New Hampshire last Sunday, 2-0, at the Mini-Stadium
with Caryn Blood and Brittany Campbell each scoring for UD.
