DURHAM, NH - Sophomore
Caryn Blood (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic/U. of
Miami, Fla.) scored one goal and assisted on another as the
University of Delaware women's soccer team ran its unbeaten
streak to five games with a 2-0 America East victory over
New Hampshire at Lewis Field Sunday afternoon.
The Hens, who are now 4-0-1 in
its last five games, improved to 10-6-1 (5-4-1 America East)
and moved into third place in the America East standings
with one league game remaining. The top six teams in the
league advance to the league tournament scheduled for Nov.
7-9. New Hampshire, which had won three of its last four
games, fell to 6-9-3 (5-4-1).
Delaware has now defeated the
Wildcats three straight years. The five-game unbeaten streak
is the longest for the Blue Hens since starting last season
6-0-1.
After a scoreless first half,
Blood got the Hens going when she converted a penalty kick
just seven minutes into the second half for what proved to
be the game-winner. The goal was her team-high ninth of the
year.
Delaware made it 2-0 just 12
minutes later when Blood's crossing pass from 10 yards out
set up a score by junior Brittany Campbell (Newtown,
PA/Notre Dame HS). The goal was Campbell's eighth of the
season and team-high 21st of her career.
UNH outshot Delaware 17-14 but
Blue Hen goalkeeper Andrea Lunn (Topsfield,
MA/Masconomet) posted four saves for her third shutout of
the season.
The Hens will play their final
regular season game of the season Nov. 3 at Towson.
