NEWARK, DE -- Junior
Brittany Campbell's goal in the 41st minute was all
the University of Delaware women's soccer team needed to
defeat New Hampshire, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in America East
First Round action at the Mini-Stadium. It was the first
women's soccer postseason game played at Delaware
Mini-Stadium
Delaware, playing without
conference assist leader Ginette Buffone, struggled
to get shots on the Wildcats early, not recording a shot in
the first 40 minutes of play. Ginna Lewing headed the
ball high into the air allowing Campbell (Newtown, PA) to
drive a shot to the right corner of the net.
The Blue Hen defense took
control from that point, not allowing the Wildcats a shot on
goal in the second half. Andrea Lunn stopped two
Wildcat shots early in the contest in recording the shutout.
It was the third time that
Delaware has defeated the Wildcats in the America East
Tournament, previously defeating New Hampshire in 1995 and
1996.
Delaware senior Megan
McFadden (Warminster, PA) played in her 78th career
game, breaking the UD women's soccer record for all-time
games played.
The University of Delaware
advances to face top-seeded Boston University in the America
East semifinals Friday night at 7:00 at Nickerson Field.
