Caryn Blood scores twice to lead Delaware over Drexel in CAA Women's Soccer Action

 

 PHILADELPHIA - Junior Caryn Blood (Howell, NJ) scored two goals and dished out one assist to lead Delaware to a 5-0 victory over Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer match Friday afternoon in Philadelphia.

Sophomore Christine Wrightson opened the scoring in the eighth minute via an assist from Blood. In the 36th minute, Blood went past three Drexel defenders to score the first of her two goals, giving the Hen's a 2-0 lead at the half.

Blood struck pay-dirt again in the 57th minute when she notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Junior Francesca Termini scored her sixth goal of the season on a break away in the 62nd minute, while freshman Allison Kendro (St. David's, PA) rounded out the day's scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute.

With today's win, the Blue Hen's have a chance to secure home-field for one of Tuesday's CAA first-round games. Delaware must win on Sunday at Hofstra, and have James Madison either lose or tie at league-leading William & Mary on Saturday night.

Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Shover (Lancaster, PA) made seven saves to pick up her sixth shutout of the season and fourth in conference play. Drexel (2-14-1/0-7-1 CAA) goalkeeper Sara Peranteau stopped four shots in a losing effort.

The five goal effort by Delaware was the second-highest total of the season. Back on September 14, the Blue Hens won 6-1 at Mt. St. Mary's. Today also marked just the fourth time this season the team scored at least three goals in a single match.

The Blue Hens outshot the Dragons, 17-9.

Delaware (9-7-1/4-3-1 CAA) returns to action Sunday when they visit Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra at 12 noon.
