Delaware, 3-0, in Women's Soccer Action
The Blue Hens will
visit Hofstra on Tuesday in the first-round of the CAA
Championships
HEMPSTEAD, NY - Delaware was
shutout, 3-0, by Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association
women's soccer match Sunday afternoon in Hempstead,
NY.
The Pride opened the scoring
just 7:51 into the game when Marisa Pistone scored on a
rebound from six-yards out.
Hofstra would take a 1-0 lead
into halftime, and the score remained just that until
Charity Schmitt and Elyse Bizzozzaro scored five minutes
apart midway through the second half to secure the victory
for the Pride.
With the victory, Hofstra
secures the third seed and a first-round home-game in the
CAA women's soccer championship on Tuesday. Delaware, the
sixth-seed, will travel back to Hempstead, NY to take on
Hofstra, in a rematch of today''s match. Game time to be
announced.
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay
Shover made a career-high nine saves in a losing effort
for the Blue Hens.
Rebecca Wachsberger had three
saves in net for Hofstra (13-4-1/6-3 CAA).
The Pride outshot Delaware,
21-6, while the Blue Hens held an 8-3 advantage in corner
kicks.
Delaware (9-8-1/4-4-1 CAA)
returns to action Sunday when they visit Colonial Athletic
Association rival Hofstra at 12 noon.
