LaSalle shuts out Delaware in season opener

PHILADELPHIA -- Shannon Plunkett scored twice and Amy Schneider had a goal and two assists to spoil Delaware's opener as LaSalle defeated the Blue Hens, 4-0, in women's soccer action Friday.

The loss marked the first time that the Blue Hens were shutout in an opener since falling 1-0 at Navy on September 11, 1990. Delaware had won six straight season openers since a 6-1 loss at No. 6 Virginia on August 31, 1996.

The Blue Hens outshot the Explorers 20-14, including 13-7 in the first half.

Andrea Lunn had six saves in a losing effort for Delaware.

The Blue Hens travel to Philadelphia Wednesday to face Saint Joseph's at 4 p.m.
