NEWARK, DE - Stacey Finley scored the
game-winning goal in the 75th minute to lead Navy to a 2-0
win over Delaware in a non-league women's soccer match
Sunday at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Finley gathered a through ball
from Heather Thomas and outraced the Delaware defense to
give the Mids a 1-0 lead at 74:02.
Amelia Sheveland added a goal
at 79:52 to ensure Navy's (12-0-4) unbeaten campaign
continues. They are one of only three teams in the country
without a loss this season.
The Blue Hens had a chance to
take a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when
Francesca Termini headed a pass from Maria
Pollaro towards the net, but Navy goalkeeper Kim
Bonafede dove to her left to make one of her four saves on
the afternoon.
Lindsay Shover made
three saves in a losing effort for Delaware.
Delaware (7-6-1) returns to
action Friday when it hosts Colonial Athletic Association
rival Old Dominion at 7 p.m.
