Lewing scores game-winner, gives Blue Hens 1-0 victory over Penn

Ginna Lewing one-timed a shot past Quaker goalkeeper Vanessa Scotto

NEWARK, DE - Junior defender Ginna Lewing scored the game-winning goal midway through the first half to propel Delaware to a 1-0 victory over Penn in a non-league women's soccer match Wednesday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Lewing one-timed a pass from junior midfielder Caryn Blood just under the crossbar, and over the outstretched arms of Quaker goalkeeper Vanessa Scotto at 26:56 of the first half.

The goal was Lewing's second of the season, while Blood picked up her team leading fifth assist on the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Shover made four saves to pickup her fourth shutout of the season. Scotto had three saves in a losing effort for Penn (5-6-1).

The Quakers have been shutout five times this season and are winless in their last five outings (0-4-1).

Delaware (7-5-1) returns to action Sunday when it hosts Navy at 7 p.m.
