First-half goals lift Scarlet
Knights past Blue Hens
PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Danae
Risoli and Carli Lloyd scored first-half goals and Christine
Caldwell recorded four saves as Rutgers shutout Delaware,
2-0, in women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Yurcak
Field.
Risoli made her impression
quickly. The freshman came off the bench and scored just 16
second later of a feed from Kelly Evans for her first
collegiate goal at the 17:41 mark.
Lloyd gave the Scarlet Knights
(2-1-1) a 2-0 lead when she scored her third goal of the
season at the 30:03 mark. Lloyd weaved through traffic and
hit a blast from the top of the box to give Rutgers a
two-goal lead.
Delaware goalkeeper Andrea
Lunn made seven saves in a losing effort. Rutgers outshot
Delaware, 23-6, including 14-1 in the second
half.
The Blue Hens (1-2) return to
action Thursday night when they host Lehigh at 7 p.m. in
their home opener at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
