Game-Winner to lead Delaware over UNC
Wilmington
NEWARK, DE -- The
University of Delaware scored three goals in the second half
to upend visiting UNC Wilmington, 3-0, in a Colonial
Athletic Association women's soccer match Friday night at
Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Junior Ginna Lewing put
Delaware on the board first when she headed in a corner-kick
from sophomore Christina Martinik at
58:59.
Junior Caryn Blood
gathered a through ball from sophomore Christine
Wrightson and outraced the Seahawks' defense for a
break-away goal at 66:53 to put the Blue Hens up
2-0.
Freshman Jenny Donoghue
(Mendham, NJ/W. Morris Mendham) added her first
collegiate goal at 81:34 when she buried her shot from
20-yards out to cap the game's scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay
Shover had four saves to post her second shutout of the
season. Danielle Hammer started in net for UNC Wilmington
(7-3, 0-2 CAA), and made two saves. Tiffany Langford
replaced her late in the second half and stopped one
shot.
Delaware (6-3, 2-0 CAA)
returns to action on Sunday when it plays host to conference
rival Virginia Commonwealth at Delaware Mini-Stadium at 1
p.m.
