Falls to Howard, 2-1
WASHINGTON,
D.C.-- A goal by Howard University's
Raneika Bean lifted the Bison to a 2-1
overtime win over the University of
Delaware women's soccer team on Tuesday
afternoon in Washington D.C.
The Blue
Hens(6-4-3, 1-2-1CAA) continued their
trend of scoring early, as freshman Alli
D'Amico (Manasquan, NJ/ Red Bank
Catholic-at right) took a pass from junior
Liz Friedman (North Potomac, MD/ Thomas S.
Wooton) and knocked it home 24 minutes
into the game. D'Amico's goal was her
third of the season and came in the 24
minute of the game. The Blue Hens have now
scored the first goal in 10 out of 13
games this season. The shots were even in
the first half as both teams recorded
five.
Howard
knotted things up at 1-1 just 14 minutes
into the second half as Alyssa Fortune
took a pass from Michelle Williston and
Bean and drove it home. Both teams were
unable to generate many scoring chances
during the rest of regulation.
Bean ended
things just eight minutes into the first
overtime as she drove home an unassisted
goal to give Howard the
victory.
Sophomore
Bonnie Mills (Bear, DE/ Caravel Academy)
made her second straight start in goal for
the Blue Hens and recorded six saves while
allowing the two goals. Lindsay Walton was
in goal for the Bison and she made four
saves and allowed the one goal. Shots were
even for the game as both teams recorded
12 apiece while Delaware held the slight
advantage in corner kicks at
4-3.
Delaware
is now idle until Friday, October 15 when
the Blue Hens play host to Virginia
Commonwealth. Game time at Delaware
Mini-Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
