Falls to William & Mary in CAA Women's
Soccer Opener 2-1
NEWARK, DE
(September 24, 2004) -- A goal by William
& Mary's Taline Tahmassin 22 minutes
into the second half broke a 1-1 tie as
Delaware (5-2-2, 0-1 CAA) fell to the
Tribe, 2-1, in Colonial Athletic
Association action on Friday night at
Delaware Mini-Stadium. The loss snaps the
Blue Hens' four-game winning
streak.
Delaware
got things going in this one as CAA
Co-Player of the Week Allison Kendro (St.
David's, PA/ Episcopal-at right) knocked
the ball home off a pass from Shannon
Alger (Hopatcong, NJ/ Red Bank Catholic).
The goal is Kendro's fifth in three games.
Less than
a minute later Tahmassin struck for the
first of her two goals on the night,
scoring off a pass from Katie Hogwood.
Tahmassin's goal snapped a 299 minute
scoreless streak for UD goalkeeper Lindsey
Shover (Lancaster, PA/ Penn Manor) and the
Blue Hen defense.
The second
half was a battle with William & Mary
controlling the ball for a large chunk of
the time, including Keri Gordon on a
penalty shot that hit the top crossbar.
Tahmassin's second goal of the night came
off an assist from Brittany Bode.
Shover
made four saves while allowing the two
goals, while the Tribe's Kelli Fenton made
three saves on the night. Delaware outshot
William & Mary, 11-9, for the
game.
Delaware
returns to action on Sunday when it plays
host to Old Dominion in a CAA game. Old
Dominion will enter the game with an 0-1
mark in the CAA as well as the Monarchs
fell at Towson on Friday night, 3-2. Game
time at Delaware Mini-Stadium is set for 1
p.m.
