NEWARK, DE-- The Hofstra Pride scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of game action to down the University of Delaware women’s soccer team 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
The Pride (7-2-1, 3-0 CAA) took the lead only 10:31 into the contest when Chrissy Arnone gathered a ball on the right side of the goalie box and was able to beat Blue Hen goalie Lindsey Shover with a shot inside the left post. Hofstra remained on the attack, scoring its second goal just over ten minutes later off of a corner kick by Marie Curtin, which was put home by Edel Malone.
The Hens (5-3-2, 2-1 CAA) were never able to get a consistent attack mounted toward the Hofstra goal, and were continuously stymied by the Hofstra defense. Hofstra held a 13-7 advantage in shots for the game, led by three apiece by Amber Albrecht and Nina Nanavrakis.
Delaware was kept in the game by goalie Bonnie Mills (at right), who replaced an injured Lindsey Shover with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. Mills made five saves and did not allow a goal in 59 minutes. Hofstra keeper Becky Wachsberger made three saves to record the shutout.
The Hens will return to action this Friday when they travel to Old Dominion to face off with the Monarchs. Game time from Norfolk is 7 p.m.
