SOUTH ORANGE, NJ- Freshman Caitlyn Germain (Auburn, MA/St. Peter-Marian)
scored her first career goal in helping the University of Delaware women’s
soccer team to a 1-1 double overtime tie in a non-conference game at Seton
Hall Sunday afternoon.
Germain, coming off a solid collegiate debut Friday at Saint Joseph’s in
which she recorded five shots, scored 4:25 into the second half from just
inside the 18-yard line. Senior tri-capatin Mary Beth Creed (Owings Mills,
MD/McDonogh) earned her first assist of the year setting up the goal with a
pass to the middle to Germain. Germain had five shots, leading the Blue
Hens, (1-0-1) for the second consecutive game.
The goal gave the Hens the lead, but 25:55 into the second half Seton Hall
tied the game on a goal by Aubrey Ellzey. The teams remained deadlocked
througout the rest of regulation and the two overtime periods.
Lindsey Shover (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) made five saves in the game for
the Blue Hens. The Hens were able to hold off the Pirates for the tie
despite being outshot 5-0 in the overtimes, and 22-13 for the game.
Amanda Becker had five saves in goal for Seton Hall (0-1-1).
The Hens will return to action on Friday against Elon College in the first
game of the North Carolina State Tournament. The game starts at 5 p.m.
