PHILADELPHIA -- Christine Murta scored with less than 14 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie and give the Drexel University women’s soccer team a 2-1 win over the University of Delaware on Friday evening in the season finale for both teams.
Lindsay James scored her second goal of the season for Delaware (8-8-3, 3-7-1 CAA).
Drexel (5-12-1, 2-9 CAA) took the lead just over 10 minutes into the game when Carly Snyder scored her 10th goal of the season. The game remained at 1-0 in the Drexel’s favor until James’ second goal of the season came 15 minutes into the second half.
Murta’s goal came at 76:26 against Delaware backup goalkeeper Annie Bevan, who made her first collegiate appearance in the second half. Drexel held on for the final 13:34 for the win.
The Dragons outshot the Hens 14-8 for the game. Kaitlin Bond made two saves to earn the win for Drexel, while Delaware split goalkeeping duties between Bonnie Mills, E.J. Goldman and Bevan. The trio combined for five saves.
Mills had played every minute of every game this season before being replaced by Goldman to start the second half. The only player to play every minute in goal for the Hens was Sheena Hunter in the 1991 season. Mills finished the season with 99 saves, good for fourth on the single-season list. She also ends her Delaware career with 173 career saves, placing her fifth in program history.
Delaware finished the season with a record of 8-8-3, marking the seventh consecutive season the Hens have been .500 or better.
