NEWARK, DE -- The College of William & Mary scored four second half goals in erasing a 2-0 deficit and defeating the University of Delaware women’s soccer team, 4-2, in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Delaware Mini-Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Donna Mataya scored twice for the No. 18 ranked Tribe (8-1-1, 2-0 CAA), while Kasie Shover and Lauren Petchel (right) scored for the Hens (6-2-2).

Delaware took the lead 34 minutes into the first half when Shover’s right-footed corner kick bent back into the net for the game’s first goal.

Petchel put the Hens up 2-0 only 14 minutes into the second half when she drove a penalty kick past Tribe goalkeeper Meghan Walker. Mataya got the Tribe on the board less than two minutes later when she put home a loose ball from a scrum in front of the Delaware net.

The game, played in in high wind and humidity in the first half, turned in William & Mary’s favor as the skies opened up and heavy rains poured down upon the field midway through the second. Eight minutes after Mataya’s goal, Sarah Quinlan tied the game by heading in a feed from Kellie Jenkins.

Eight-minutes later, Mataya scored her second goal of the day by heading in a free kick following a Delaware foul. Claire Zimmeck’s breakaway goal with less than three minutes remaining capped the scoring and completed the Tribe’s
second-half outburst.

Walker made one save for the Tribe, while Bonnie Mills stopped four shots for Delaware.

The Hens will return to action on Friday when they travel to conference rival Virginia Commonwealth at 7 p.m.
