RICHMOND, VA -- Delaware forwards Amy Pickard and Caitlyn Germain, who combined for 15 goals to lead a high-powered Blue Hen offense this season, were selected to the All-CAA women's soccer second team on Thursday, while senior midfielder Emily Sammis was a third-team pick.

Pickard (right), a freshman from Lancaster, PA (Lancaster Catholic), scored a team-high eight goals, including four game-winners, and added three assists in the 2007 campaign. She found the net in four straight games from Sept. 16-28 and was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week twice.

Pickard was one of just four freshmen named to the All-CAA squad, while her efforts also earned her a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team.

Germain earned a second-team selection on the strength of seven goals and three assists. She netted a pair of penalty-kick goals and was second on the team with 34 shots. The Auburn, MA native from St. Peter Marian High missed all but three games with an injury last year, but she picked up where she left off as a freshman in 2005. That season, she led the Blue Hens with five goals and made the CAA All-Rookie squad.

Germain is also an ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nominee, one of three Blue Hens to earn the distinction.

Sammis, a team co-captain and a force in the middle for four years, tallied six goals and a team-high four assists en route to third-team honors. A native of Huntington, NY, she scored in three consecutive matches from Sept. 2-9 and took home CAA Co-Player of the Week honors on Sept. 10.

Pickard and Sammis started all 18 matches for Delaware, which posted an 8-10 record (4-7 CAA) to place eighth in the conference this year, spent several weeks in the Soccer Buzz and NSCAA regional rankings, and scored its most goals (31) since 2003.

William & Mary striker Claire Zimmeck was named CAA Player of the Year for the second straight season after leading the conference with 16 goals, while Sue Weber of Hofstra repeated as Defensive Player of the Year and James Madison's Cate Tisinger was honored as the league's Rookie of the Year.

VCU placed six players on the All-CAA squad, while Hofstra and William & Mary were also well represented with five selections each. Eleven of the 33 all-conference picks also made the team last season.

In 2006, two Blue Hens - defender Lauren Petchel and goalkeeper Bonnie Mills - were all-conference selections. UD hasn't had three All-CAA players since 2003, when Ginna Lewing, Maria Pollaro, and Caryn Blood were voted among the league's best.
