Hens Ranked 15th in Soccer Buzz Regional Poll

DATE: September 19, 2007

athlete photoNEW YORK, NY -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer team, led by midfielders Emily Sammis and Kasie Shover (right), is ranked No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic region in Soccer Buzz magazine’s latest weekly poll, which was released Monday.

The Blue Hens (3-2, 0-0 CAA) lost Sunday at Georgetown, but retained the 15th spot because the 7-1 Hoyas are ranked ninth in the region.

UD, which shut out Seton Hall, Marshall, and Saint Joseph’s before Georgetown ended its three-game winning streak, has appeared in the regional poll at least once in each of the last four years. The Hens achieved their highest-ever ranking in 2005, when they finished the season at No. 9 in the 47-team region.

This week’s Mid-Atlantic poll includes five other CAA teams: No. 6 James Madison, No. 8 William & Mary, No. 11 George Mason, No. 12 Old Dominion, and No. 14 Towson. Hofstra, meanwhile, falls one spot to No. 4 in the Northeast region, while UNC-
Wilmington takes over the 15th spot in the Southeast.

Virginia, which topped Delaware 4-0 in the Hens’ season-opener, remains No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic, while Stanford has supplanted North Carolina as America's top side.

Sammis leads the Hens with three goals on the year, while goalkeepers E.J. Goldman and Annie Bevan have combined to post a .800 save percentage.

The Hens travel to the Lone Star State on Friday for a 7 p.m. match-up with Texas-San Antonio.
