NEWARK, DE -- Down 3-0 with just 27 minutes left, the Delaware women's soccer team staged a comeback like none other, scoring four second-half goals - including three in six minutes - to stun Georgia State, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium.

Senior midfielder Emily Sammis (right) scored two goals in a 2:16 span for the Blue Hens in the key CAA showdown, while freshman forward Amy Pickard netted the game-winner in the 80th minute to cap a remarkable run that saw Delaware score four goals in 16:17. Junior midfielder Kasie Shover added a goal and an assist for the Hens (7-8-0, 3-5-0 CAA), who got a huge win to keep them in contention for a berth in the CAA tournament.

The Panthers (8-7-0, 3-5-0 CAA) got on the board first in the 15th minute, when forward Nathalie Carter broke loose in space for her ninth goal of the year. Forward Kay Harbrueger doubled the GSU advantage at the 30:17 mark, giving the Panthers a 2-0 halftime lead.

GSU striker April Goodwin gave her squad a seemingly insurmountable lead in the 60th minute, settling a Carter feed and beating UD keeper Annie Bevan from close range.

But Delaware was anything but done, as Shover proved when she fired a shot through the fingers of Georgia State's Heidi Blankenship at 62:48 to give the Hens a sliver of hope. Sammis got UD within one just three minutes later, booting a high-arching effort over Blankenship's outstretched hands for her fifth goal of the season.

The Hens refused to let up, as Sammis headed home the equalizer before the Panthers could recover from her first goal. Shover lofted a pinpoint cross into the box, and Sammis redirected it high into the net at the 68:06 mark to knot the score at three.

Delaware had a little more magic left, and Pickard provided it. With just over ten minutes left in regulation, freshman Jilyse Vendola made a run down the left side and crossed the ball deep into the box. Pickard positioned herself inside two GSU defenders and headed it into the upper-right corner of the net to cap off the wild UD comeback.

The Hens enjoyed an 11-9 edge in shots, while Georgia State earned five corner kicks to Delaware's four.

Bevan collected three saves in the triumph, improving to 5-2 on the year, while Sammis recorded the first two-goal game of her career and led the Hens with four shots.

Blankenship made four saves in goal for the Panthers, while Carter's five shots were a GSU team high.

Delaware improved to 2-1 all-time against Georgia State, which had a two-game win streak snapped and allowed its most goals in more than a year. The Blue Hens hadn't scored four goals in a half since netting five after intermission in a Sept. 2 win over Saint Joseph's.

The Blue Hens notched their third come-from-behind win of the season.

UD returns to action on Friday night, when the Hens make the long trek to Northeastern for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
