NEWARK, DE -- Forward Brooke DeRosa scored her 11th goal of the season to lead Hofstra to a 2-0 victory over the Delaware women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium, the Hens fourth loss in their last five matches.
Delaware (7-10-0, 3-7-0 CAA) threatened in the opening minutes and had a goal disallowed on an offside call, but Hofstra (14-3-0, 8-2-0 CAA) struck first at 34:55, when Sue Weber found Edel Malone in space at the top of the box. The midfielder booted the ball past UD keeper Annie Bevan to notch her fifth goal of the year and give the Pride a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
DeRosa tacked on an insurance goal six minutes into the second half, heading a Jess Crankshaw corner kick into the left side of the net to secure Hofstra's third straight win.
The Pride, ranked No. 3 in the Northeast region in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, out-shot the Blue Hens, 13-8, and earned four corner kicks to UD's three. Junior midfielder Kasie Shover (right) took a team-high three shots for the Hens, who allowed two or more goals for the fourth straight match.
Hofstra scored its eighth consecutive win over Delaware, which fell to 4-11 in the all-time series with the Pride.
Bevan made one save before she was sidelined with an injury after 43 minutes of action. Junior E.J. Goldman stepped in for the Blue Hens to record three saves of her own.
Delaware closes out its regular season on Thursday, when the Hens host Drexel for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
