NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware women’s soccer freshman forward Amy Pickard has been named to the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic Region All-Freshman team.
Pickard (at right), a native of Lancaster, PA (Lancaster Catholic High School), was one of 18 players honored on the team, which was selected from the staff of Soccer Buzz, one of the leading websites that cover women’s collegiate soccer.
The Mid-Atlantic Region covers all NCAA Division I schools in the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Joining Pickard on the team were goalkeepers Yewande Balogun (Maryland) and Chantel Jones (Virginia), forwards Marika Gray (Virginia Tech), Meghan Lenczyk (Virginia), Megan Mischler (West Virginia), Cate Tisinger (James Madison), and Dani Toney (Penn State), midfielders Kelliann Doherty (Bucknell), Friederike Engel (American), Sarah Friedman (Pennsylvania), Teresa Rynier (James Madison), and Ingrid Wells (Georgetown), and defenders Michaela Buonomo (Georgetown), Kelly Lynch (Virginia Tech), Kaitlin O’Connor (William & Mary), and Katy Winsper (William & Mary).
Pickard was named the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team and the CAA All-Rookie team this past season when she scored a team-high eight goals, including four game-winners, and added three assists. She found the net in four straight games from Sept. 16-28 and was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week twice. She was one of just four freshmen named to the All-CAA squad, while her efforts also earned her a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team.
Delaware posted a record of 8-10 this past season under head coach Scott Grzenda and placed eighth in the rugged CAA with a record of 4-7.
