NEWARK, DE -- Senior midfielder Alli D'Amico (right) scored two goals and added an assist as the University of Delaware women's soccer team romped past Saint Joseph's 7-0 on Sunday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
With goals in the 76th and 86th minutes, D'Amico moved into a tie for 12th on Delaware's all-time list with Saint Joseph's head coach Jess Reynolds, who played for UD from 1993-96.
The Blue Hens, who improved to 1-1 on the year and won their 10th consecutive home opener, took control early, as sophomore forward Caitlyn Germain found the net at the 8:55 mark. Ten minutes later, freshman striker Amy Pickard scored her first career goal on a Germain assist.
The Hens outshot Saint Joseph's 15-3 in the first half and refused to let up after intermission. Senior midfielder Emily Sammis punched in a header on a cross to extend the lead to 3-0 with 40 minutes left to play, and senior defender Kendall Lytwynec joined the party just three minutes later with a goal of her own.
After D'Amico headed in a cross from freshman Jilyse Vendola at 75:06, she fired a 15-yard bullet past Saint Joseph's goalie Megan Bastianelli to record the first two-goal game of her career. Sophomore midfielder Amanda Davis added an 87th-minute score on a D'Amico feed.
The Blue Hens won their seventh straight over the Hawks and tied a team record with five second-half goals. They haven't scored seven goals in a game since a 1993 rout of Lehigh.
After being held to two shots in a loss to No. 17 Virginia on Friday, Delaware outshot the Hawks 30-6 and earned 11 corner kicks.
Junior midfielder Kasie Shover notched eight shots, the most by any Blue Hen since 2003. In goal for UD, junior E.J. Goldman saved two shots to post her first career win.
