SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Blue Hen sophomore Caitlyn Germain (at right) and freshman Amy Pickard each scored first half goals as the University of Delaware women’s soccer team defeated the University of Texas-San Antonio, 2-0, Friday night.

Germain put the Blue Hens on the board 13:45 into the match when she one-timed a pass to the middle of the field by senior Emily Sammis to score her second goal of the season.

Delaware, which improved to 4-2 on the season, added an insurance goal just 1:02 before halftime as freshman Amy Pickard scored her third goal of the year off a feed from senior Kendall Lytwynec.

Junior goalkeeper Annie Bevan made seven saves, including six in the second half, to hold off the Roadrunners and post her third shutout of the season. Rachel Francis stopped three shots and allowed two goals in goal during the first half for UTSA, which fell to 1-5-1 on the year and dropped its fourth consecutive match. Kasi Hebert made two saves while playing a scoreless second half for the Roadrunners.

Pickard tallied five shots while Germain added three for the Blue Hens, who captured the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Delaware continues its road trip on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Baylor.
