NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer program recently held it’s annual Alumni Game and get together on Saturday, April 19.
The women’s soccer program, which will begin it’s 19th season under head coach Scott Grzenda this coming fall, welcomed back more than 45 players from it’s inaugural season in 1990 through it’s most recent class of 2008.
“It’s an extraordinary day when you can get together with people who have been a part of your life for the last 18 years," said Grzenda, the only coach in the history of the sport at Delaware. "To know that they still enjoy the game of soccer and to watch their children play on the sidelines is something really special."
There were representatives from almost every class that participated in a game with the current team. Everyone finished the day with a dinner and social.
“Every year we get more and more alumni attending," said Grzenda. "If you add the husbands and kids, we may soon need to rent a whole restaurant.”
The UD women’s soccer team will begin its 2008 campaign with scrimmages against Villanova and Lehigh followed by it’s first official games against Lafayette and St. John’s at the Blue Hen Classic on August 29-31. The team plays it’s home games at the Delaware Mini-Stadium behind Delaware Stadium.
