RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware women’s soccer players Alli D’Amico (at right, bottom) and Caitlyn Germain (at right, top) were named to the 2008 Third Team All-Colonial Athletic Association squad as selected by the CAA women’s soccer coaches the conference announced Thursday night.
D’Amico, a senior midfielder, and Germain, a junior forward, ranked one and two, respectively in points scored for the Blue Hens this season, with D’Amico scoring 13 on five goals and three assists and Germain scoring 11 on three goals and five assists.
D’Amico and Germain both were named to the CAA All-Rookie Team their freshman seasons, D’Amico in 2004 and Germain in 2005, and Germain was named Second Team All-CAA last season.
A native of Auburn, Mass., Germain is one of just three UD women’s soccer players to earn all-conference honors at least three years and the first since Beth Gregory won four straight from 1994-97. Still with one year of playing eligibility, Germain joins Gregory (the only Blue Hen to do it all four years) as the only two players to win their first three years in the program.
The St. Peter Marian High School alum had a break-out weekend Oct. 17-19 as she had a foot in all five goals scored in wins over Towson and George Mason. Against Towson, she scored the first goal and then assisted on the second goal scored by Jess Bendzlowicz. She followed up that performance with three assists in the 3-0 Delaware win two days later against George Mason.
Going into the season, Germain was named Pre-Season All-CAA and during the season she earned Player of the Week Honors on Oct. 20 for her efforts in the Towson and George Mason games.
Germain, a sport management major with a minor in legal studies, has also been honored for her academic work making the CAA Academic Honor Roll and earning an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nomination.
D’Amico (Manasquan, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) had a very productive year coming off a season-ending injury just three matches into the 2007 season. The super senior scored her five goals in five different games including two game-winners in 1-0 Delaware victories in the first and last games of the season. She was named to the Blue Hen Classic All-Tournament Team following the tournament Delaware hosted in August.
Over the course of her career, D’Amico has been one of the most clutch players in school history. In addition to her two game-winners this season, she tallied three game-winners as a sophomore in 2005, including the winning goal in the CAA quarterfinal shootout against William & Mary.
D’Amico is one of just five Blue Hens to win all-conference honors in her freshman and senior seasons and the first to do it since Christine Wrightson in 2001 and 2004.
