RICHMOND, Va. – Caitlyn Germain (at right) was named Player of the Week in the Colonial Athletic Association for her efforts this weekend against Towson and George Mason, the CAA office announced today.
Germain is the first Delaware women’s soccer player to win this award since Emily Sammis was named Co-Player of the Week on Sept. 10, 2007, and it is the first weekly honor for a Blue Hen since Amy Pickard was awarded Rookie of the Week two consecutive weeks (Sept. 24 and Oct. 1) in 2007.
A native of Auburn, Mass. (St. Peter-Marian High School), Germain had a foot in all five goals the Hens scored this weekend. Against Towson on Friday, she scored the first goal and then assisted on the second goal scored by Jess Bendzlowicz. She followed up that performance with three assists in the 3-0 Delaware win on Sunday against George Mason.
The junior forward’s goal against Towson was her third of the season and her four assists this weekend gave her a team-leading five. She is also currently tied with senior Alli D’Amico for the team lead in points with 11.
This is the first time Germain has received this honor, but she has been recognized by the CAA before. Heading into the season she was named to the Pre-Season All-CAA Team and was also named to the All-CAA 2nd Team last year as a sophomore.
Germain, a sport management major with a minor in legal studies, has also been honored for her academic work making the CAA Academic Honor Roll and earning an ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nomination.
