ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia State scored 44 seconds into the game and then with 46 seconds left in the game to defeat Delaware 2-1 on a cold and wet Friday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
The Blue Hens fell to 6-9-1, 3-6 on the year with the loss as Georgia State improved to 11-7, 4-5.
Kay Harbrueger got the Panthers an early 1-0 when she scored off a crossing pass by Apryl Goodwin just 44 seconds into regulation. Caroline Harvischak was also credited with an assist on the play.
Harbrueger’s goal woke up the Hens’ defense, which did not allow another goal until the final minute of play; however, the offense did not come alive until the second half.
After managing just one shot in the first half, Delaware took nine in the scond half, led by Stacie Dulkis’s four. Dulkis (at right) scored an unassisted goal nearly halfway through the second half to tie the game 1-1. It was her fourth goal of the season, putting her in a three-way tie with Alli D’Amico and Amy Pickard for the team lead.
The Blue Hens were without Pickard for most of the second half, as about five minutes in, she was carried off the field and later taken to a local hospital to get x-rays.
With just 46 seconds left in regulation, Lani Huntley would score the game-winner for Georgia State on an unassisted goal off a deflection.
Delaware takes the field Sunday at CAA foe UNC Wilmington as it hopes to stay alive in the six-team CAA playoff hunt.
