HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The University of Delaware women’s soccer team fell to Hofstra on the road Friday night, 1-0, on Laura Greene’s goal midway through the second half.

This was both team's first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season. Delaware's home game against Northeastern on Sunday has been moved to 4 p.m. instead of 1 p.m.

Delaware (3-4-1, 0-1 CAA) had two very good chances to score against Hofstra Friday night. The first opporunity came 12 minutes into the first half when Caitlyn Germain (at right) jumped up and blocked an attempt by Hofstra goalkeeper Krystal Robens to clear the ball, and she had a chance to track it down with the net empty. She could not quite get her foot around the ball, though, and her shot went well wide.

The second came three minutes before Greene’s goal when Alli D’Amico hit the post with a header off a corner kick taken by senior midfielder Dana Rodgers. D’Amico got her head on it at the top of the six-yard box, and it bounced down off the ground and off the left post.

In the 68th minute, Hofstra’s Courtney Breen had a long run up the middle of the field and then laid off to Greene inside the box. Greene put in a shot from 12 yards out that proved to be the game winner. Hofstra improved to 4-4-1 (1-0 CAA) with the win.

The Blue Hens were out-shot 13-5, and Hofstra held a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks on the night. Freshman goalkeeper Breanna Stemler made six saves for Delaware in the losing effort.
