NEWARK, Del. -- Victoria Johnson and Elizabeth Brewster each scored goals for Old Dominion as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 shutout over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the UD Mini-Stadium.
The Monarchs, who won for the first time in eight all-time meetings with Delaware, improved to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the CAA. The Blue Hens dropped their second straight as Delaware fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Old Dominion struck first 12:15 into the match as Victoria Johnson scored off assists from Shavon Knight and Katie Watson. Johnson collected a feed from Watson 15 yards out and beat UD goalkeeper Annie Bevan into the bottom left corner of the net to record her sixth goal of the season.
The Monarchs’ Elizabeth Brewster made it a two-goal game by scoring off assists from Watson and Jocelyn Weidner just 2:39 into the second half. Brewster collected a pass from Weidner about 12 yards out on the right side and lofted a high shot over Bevan for her third goal of the campaign.
Lauren Tupman made three saves in the Old Dominion goal to post the shutout for the Monarchs, while Bevan stopped two shots in the Blue Hen net.
Delaware held a slim 7-6 shot advantage, including three shots apiece from Amy Pickard (at right) and Caitlyn Germain. The Blue Hens also took seven corner kicks to Old Dominion’s five.
The Blue Hens return to action on Friday, October 10 when Delaware travels to James Madison for a 7 p.m. match with the Dukes.
