NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Delaware women’s soccer team had an offensive explosion on Friday afternoon as they beat Sacred Heart 5-1 in Game 1 of the Yale Tournament.

Freshman forward Stacie Dulkis scored a career-high two goals and three other Blue Hens found the net on their way to the highest scoring output since Sept. 2, 2007 when they beat Saint Joseph’s 7-0.

Amy Pickard put the Hens on the board first when she received a pass from senior midfielder Jamie Flynn, dribbled down the left side, cut into the middle and put home a shot just before the 13-minute mark. This was her team-leading, third goal of the season.

Sacred Heart would respond right near the 40-minute mark when Leigh Dogmanits scored a goal off of an assist from Ashley Testani to tie the score 1-1.

But right before the half, Dulkis would put the Hens ahead for good when she received a shot from Ilyssa Friedman and snuck in a shot from inside the box.

That goal would take the wind out of Sacred Heart’s sail, as Delaware would go on to score three goals in the second half and shut SHU out the remainder of the game.

Alli D’Amico scored the Hens’ third goal of the game nearly ten minutes into the second half when she put in a cross by Caitlyn Germain. This was her second goal of the year.

Not even a minute later, Dulkis was at it again. She stole the ball just outside the box and lifted a shot past Sacred Heart goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt.

Caitlyn Germain would add the Hens fifth goal of the game with five minutes left in regulation when she scored off of a cross by Lisa Parsons. This was Germain’s first goal of the season.

The scoring output in this game was more goals than the Hens had scored in its past four games combined.

Head Coach Scott Grzenda went with freshman Breanna Stemler in goal. This was Stemler’s second career start, and she saved four shots and allowed one goal. Stemler has played in five halves this season and only allowed one goal.

Through five games this season, Delaware has allowed just two goals. With the win today, the Hens are 3-1-1. Sacred Heart fell to 0-5.

Delaware will face Yale in Game 3 of the Yale Tournament on Sunday at 1:30 in New Haven, Conn.
