PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After scoring a goal in the opening minutes of the game, the University of Delaware women’s soccer team gave up two unanswered goals in the first half and lost 2-1 to Saint Joseph’s in Philadelphia on Friday night.
Alli D’Amico scored her third goal of the season at 2:19 on a penalty kick to put Delaware up 1-0 early.
But a little more than 10 minutes later, Saint Joseph’s Jen Pfeiffer would answer with a goal off of a rebound to tie it, 1-1.
Kortner Rhoades would score what proved to be the game-winner for Saint Joseph’s (4-2) when she put a shot past an outstretched Annie Bevan to the top left corner of the goal about three minutes after Pfeiffer’s goal.
Freshman Breanna Stemler came into the game at goalkeeper for the Hens in the second period, and made one save to shut out the Hawks in the second half. Stemler has only allowed one goal in the four halves she has played in this season. Senior Annie Bevan, who started the game in goal for Delaware, made four saves while allowing two goals.
The Hens took 12 shots on the night, five of which were taken by D’Amico.
This game marked the last non-conference game of the season. Delaware (3-3-1) begins conference play next Friday when it goes on the road to take on Hofstra.
