NEWARK, Del.– The University of Delaware women’s soccer team lost an evenly matched game to St. John’s 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in game four of the Blue Hen Classic at the Delaware Mini Stadium. St. John’s finished the tournament 2-0 and Delaware fell to 1-1.
St. John’s (3-0) junior forward Amanda Santos scored the only goal of the game late in the first half when she headed in a cross from Tatiana Duggan. The Red Storm’s Kristin Russell played the entire 90 minutes in goal and collected five saves to preserve the shutout.
In other Blue Hen Classic action Sunday, the first game of the day saw Towson (2-2) defeat Lafayette (0-2-1), 1-0, on a goal by Samantha Young with a little over 17 minutes left in regulation. Young was assisted by Sarah Thomas. Towson finished the Blue Hen Classic with a 1-1 record and Lafayette finished 0-2.
Delaware (1-1) came out firing at the start of the second half, most notably when junior forward Melissa Kilker shot wide of the net off of a cross from senior forward Caitlyn Germain.
Also, with 15:04 left in the game, Germain shot wide off of a cross from Amy Pickard. The Blue Hens outshot the Red Storm 12- 11 on the day, and took eight corner kicks to just two by St. John’s.

Selected to the Blue Hen Classic All-Tournament team were Alli D'Amico, Lisa Parsons, and Jamie Flynn from Delaware, Julia Bell and Kim Sorace of Lafayette, Samantha Young and Sarah Thomas of Towson, and Kristin Russell, Tara Mendoza, Nicole Pasciolla, and Sarah McGrath of St. John's.
