NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women’s soccer team shut out Towson Friday night and got goals from Caitlyn Germain (at right) and Jess Bendzlowicz to win 2-0 and snap a four-game October losing streak.

With the win, Delaware improved to 5-8-1, 2-5 and Towson fell to 3-11-1, 0-6-1.

Blue Hen goalkeeper Annie Bevan saved four shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season as the Hens struck twice in the first half.

Caitlyn Germain tied for the team-lead with her third goal of the season when she received a pass from Alli D’Amico, beat a defender and shot from inside the box past Tiger goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak in the 14th minute.

Then, right before the end of the first half, Jess Bendzlowicz scored her first goal of the season off assists by Germain and D’Amico. This was Bendzlowicz first action since Sept. 19 at Saint Joseph’s as an injury had sidelined her until last night.

Delaware took eight shots in the first half, 12 for the game, and only allowed 10 Towson shots on the night. The Hens also took six corner kicks to the Tigers’ 2.

Delaware hosts George Mason at 1 p.m. on Sunday for Senior Day.
