RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware women’s soccer team lost for the seventh time in its last eight games on Sunday afternoon at Virginia Commonwealth as Laurel Pastor scored both Rams’ goals to beat the Blue Hens 2-1 in overtime.

With the loss, Delaware fell to 4-8-1, 1-5 CAA, and VCU moved above .500 to 7-6-1, 4-1-1.

A very physical match, the two teams combined to commit 37 fouls on the day. It was also a very evenly-contested match with VCU holding the advantage in shots 15-13 and UD holding an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The difference in the game was Pastor, who scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season to lead the Rams.

Pastor’s first goal of the day came nearly halfway into the first half. She was assisted by Megan Flanagan and June Hartman.

The Rams would take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Delaware’s Stacie Dulkis would score an unassisted goal early in the second half to tie the score, 1-1.

Ilyssa Friedman (at right) anchored a Blue Hen defense that would not allow another goal in regulation. But the Blue Hens did not score either, and the game went into overtime where Pastor scored her second goal a little over five minutes in. Again, she was assisted by Flanagan.

The Blue Hens return home as they play host to Towson on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
