RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware sophomore midfielder Stephanie Rinschler was named Co-Women’s Soccer Player of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday.

In the week prior, the Hockessin, Del. native scored both of the Hens’ goals to go 1-0-1 in a week of CAA action as Delaware improved to 5-3-4 overall, 2-1-3 CAA.

On Friday, Rinschler (at right) scored a come-from-behind goal to knot visiting James Madison University, 1-1, at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Following a Dukes’ score at 83:36, the Hens marched down the field and fought a cluster in front of the goal before tying the game merely 1:23 later. Junior Ilyssa Friedman connected with a descending ball in the box and redirected it to Rinschler who laced a shot to the open, right-side of goal for the tie. The two teams then battled through a pair of overtimes though neither could find the back of the net as the Blue & Gold gathered its fourth tie of 2009.

Two days later, Rinschler tallied the game-winning goal as she notched her third career score for the Hens in the 77th minute against Virginia Commonwealth University in Newark.

Though a give-and-go between freshman Ali Miller and Rinschler in the 71st minute came up short, the pair teamed to tally the game’s lone goal at 76:26 when Miller sent a pass to the feet of Rinschler along the left baseline. She then drove to goal, beating one defender before dodging VCU keeper, Kate Hudson, for the score.

Joining Rinschler as Co-Player of the Week, and also Rookie of the Week, was Ashlee Coutu of Old Dominion. Coutu, a freshman, scored the game-winner in a 2-1 road victory at first-place Hofstra and assisted on the Lady Monarchs’ game-tying goal in a 1-1 finish against Northeastern.

The Blue Hens return to action Friday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Towson for a 3 p.m. CAA contest.
