NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer team knotted Georgia State University, 0-0, at Delaware Mini-Stadium on Friday evening.

Despite Delaware (5-5-5 overall, 2-3-4 CAA) outshooting Georgia State (7-4-6 overall, 1-3-5 CAA), 21-4, the teams battled through 110 minutes of Colonial Athletic Association action to settle at 0-0 on the rainy evening.

Evident by its shot count, Delaware recorded a number of notable shots, though was not able to convert and find the back of the net.

Dominating the first stint of play, the Hens outshot the visiting Panthers, 8-1. A shot by sophomore Stacie Dulkis at 12:28 from 25 yards out connected with the right post to leave the game at a stalemate despite the early pressure applied by UD.

Senior Caitlyn Germain (at right) chanced the advantage at 62:04 when she headed a corner kick serve from senior Kasie Shover toward goal. Germain’s shot flew left but was not sent deep enough to score.

Late in the second, freshman Ali Miller beat a Georgia State defender on a pass from Shover and laced the shot just right of goal before notching the last attempt of regulation. Her shot at 89:25 from the top left of the box sailed high of the goal and welcomed an extra ten-minute period.

In the first overtime, the Hens’ offense pounced on the Panthers, tallying five shots to the visitors’ zero. Perhaps the most potent shot of all was one booted by Germain at 95:57. As the Auburn, Mass. native grew closer to becoming a scoring threat, GSU keeper Heidi Blankenship pulled out of goal and lost her footing on the slippery surface. Germain dribbled right of the obstacle and fired a shot at goal only to have it stopped by a Panther defender merely inches shy of the goal line.

The pair of teams exchanged a shot each in the final 10 minutes of action, though neither were on point.

UD recorded 11 corner kicks to the Panthers’ four, and each team was charged with 10 fouls throughout the contest.

Sophomore Breanna Stemler made her first start in goal for the Hens and stopped two shots, while Blankenship recorded six saves for the visiting squad who notched its fifth-straight double overtime tie.

Delaware will return to CAA action on Sunday, Oct. 25 when it hosts UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m.
