PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The University of Delaware women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to host La Salle University at McCarthy Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Though Delaware (3-2-1) tallied just one shot less than La Salle (6-2-1), with 12 and 13 respectively, the Explorers netted the eventual game-winning-goal in the 67th minute.
Seven Hens chanced finding the back of the net, while senior co-captain Kasie Shover and sophomore Stacie Dulkis each fired-off three shots.
Delaware looked to get on the board early when Shover (at right) laced back-to-back shots at 2:46 and 3:50, though both soared wide left of goal.
In the well-balanced game, the Hens and Explorers battled to enter halftime scoreless.
As no one team dominated play and the teams fought for ball control throughout the contest, it was the home squad that notched the victory. At 66:35, the Explorers scored via a through ball on a breakaway to hold off the Hens.
Senior Annie Bevan made four stops in goal for the Blue and Gold, while La Salle kepper Melissa Sanger tallied five.
The Blue Hens will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. when they host Hofstra at Delaware Mini-Stadium in Delaware’s first Colonial Athletic Association game of the year.
