BOSTON -- Freshman Tania Domingos netted the game-tying goal in the 61st minute to help the University of Delaware women’s soccer team tie host Northeastern University, 1-1, at Parsons Field on Sunday afternoon.
In the 110-minute Colonial Athletic Association battle, Northeastern (6-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 CAA) outshot Delaware (3-3-2 overall, 0-1-1 CAA), 14-10, though after each scoring a second-half goal, neither team could find the back of the net in the pair of overtime periods.
Following a scoreless first half, the Huskies broke the scoring drought at 54:42 when Northeastern beat Hens’ keeper Annie Bevan to goal for the lead. The Blue and Gold responded at 60:59 when junior defender Morgan Warrington dribbled the ball down the sideline and crossed it into the box to find the feet of Domingos (at right). Domingos connected with the serve to knot the game at one and tally her second collegiate score.
The Huskies and Hens played out the time lingering in regulation before entering a rainy overtime contest. The Hens dominated play, outshooting their opponent, 4-1 in the first overtime stint, while both squads were held shotless in the final 10 minutes of action.
In the physical contest, Delaware and Northeastern were charged with 21 and 19 fouls, respectively. UD led the game in corner kicks, 7-4.
Bevan made three saves in goal for the Blue Hens, while two keepers combined for a total of three Northeastern saves.
Delaware will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2 when it travels to William & Mary for a 7 p.m. CAA match-up.
