VILLANOVA, Pa. - The University of Delaware women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to host Villanova University at the Villanova Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

While both teams entered the game not having lost a contest in 2009, it was Villanova who continued its streak. The Wildcats improved to 6-0-1, while the Blue Hens fell to 2-1-1 after their first road trip of the season.

Prior to today’s matchups, there were 16 undefeated teams nationwide and 11 teams, Delaware and Villanova included, remaining unbeaten with one or more ties (CollegeSoccer360.com).

A Wildcat ball beat Delaware keeper Annie Bevan at the 30-minute mark to break the scoreless stalemate. Villanova led, 1-0, at the half.

Though the Hens kept up and attempted 13 shots to Villanova’s 18, it was the home squad who found the net in the 70th minute to finalize all scoring at 2-0.

Senior Caitlyn Germain (at right) laced six shots for the Blue and Gold, including three on goal, while senior tri-captain Kasey Shover booted two for Delaware, one on point.

Bevan, a senior, made five stops for the Hens, though Molly Williams notched the win for Villanova having tallied four saves.

Delaware held a slight five to three advantage in corner kicks.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. when they host Delaware State in a non-conference match.
