Haus, Macfarlane, Stouffer Win Two Events Each to Lead Blue Hens

 

BALTIMORE, MD -- The University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their 1999-2000 dual meet seasons with easy victories over host Loyola College Saturday afternoon.

Senior Tom Maday posted three victories to lead the Blue Hen men to a 146.5-87.5 win over Loyola while the Delaware women got two wins each from Jennifer Haus, Amanda Stouffer, and Lisa Macfarlane for a 147-87 triumph over the Loyola women.

The Delaware men, the three-time defending America East conference champions, won their fifth straight dual to improve to 6-1, their best record since a 10-1 mark in 1987-88. The Delaware women also won their fifth straight to improve to 6-1, their best record since a 9-1 mark in 1996-97.

Both Delaware teams will be off until Feb. 18-20 when the Blue Hens host the America East championships at Rawstrom Pool.

In the men's race, Maday (Great Mills/Lexington, MD) won the 50 freestyle (24.57) and 100 butterfly (1:00.52) and teamed with Neumann Marlett (Belvidere/Belvidere, NJ), John Fernandes (A.I. duPont HS), and Ian Miller (Dover/Dover, PA) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:57.37.

Also for the Hens, Mike Gallaher (Peabody/West Peabody, MA) was a double winner with victories in the 800 freestyle (9:12.63) and 400 freestyle (Pool Record, 4:12.23) and freshman David Troskey (William Penn HS) captured first place in both the three-meter (Pool Record, 319.8 points) and one-meter (296.63 points) diving events. Also winning for Delaware were Bryan Kahner (Jericho/Jericho, NY) in the 400 individual medley (Pool Record, 4:47.37) and Brian Salcetti (Landon/Potomac, MD) in the 200 freestyle (1:59.97).

On the women's side, Stouffer (O.J. Roberts/Spring City, PA), Haus (St. Mark's HS), and Macfarlane (Quince Orchard/Potomac, MD) were all double winners. Stouffer won the 50 freestyle (28.38) and teamed with Lisa Dillinger (Pallotti/Crofton, MD), Macfarlane, and Haus to win the 200 medley relay (Pool Record, 2:07.60). Macfarlane also won the 100 butterfly (1:08.71) and Haus captured the 100 freestyle (1:00.46).

Other winners for the Blue Hens were Jenna Blongiewicz (Andover/Andover, MD) in the 200 freestyle ( 2:12.23), Tanya Mainville (Cheshire/Cheshire, CT) in the one-meter dive (246.53 pts.), Kathryn Fryer (Severna Park/Severna Park, MD) in the 100 backstroke (1:06.22), and Sara Dyson (Liberty/Bethlehem, PA) in the 400 freestyle (4:42.11).
