Blue Hen Swimmers
Continue Lead at America East Meet
ORONO, ME -- Junior Tom Maday won his
second straight league 100 breaststroke title and freshman
Jennifer Haus captured the 200 freestyle to lead the
University of Delaware at the second day of the America East
Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at Wallace Pool
at the University of Maine.
Maday, who swam to a winning time of 57.85 for his fourth
career conference breaststroke title, helped the two-time
defending champion Blue Hen men remain in first place
heading into the final day of action Sunday. No America East
swimming team has ever won three straight team titles.
The Blue Hen women are in fourth place after two days,
trailing Boston University, New Hampshire, and
Northeastern.
Haus, a freshman from St. Mark's HS, won the 200
freestyle in a time of 1:55.73 and teamed with Amanda
Stouffer, Amy Spooner, and Kathryn Fryer to place
fourth in the 800 freestyle relay in a time of 7:58.04.
Lisa Dillinger placed third in the 100 backstroke
(1:00.99) and teamed witih Danielle Hack, Fryer, and
Stouffer to place fifth in the 200 medley relay with a
school record time of 1:51.63. Fryer also placed fourth in
the 100 backstroke (1:00.99) and sixth in the 100 butterfly
(59.13) while Stouffer was fourth in the 100 breaststroke
(1:08.40).
Also for the Blue Hen men, Ryan Fauth placed
second in the 200 freestysle (1:43.10) and teamed with
Scott Muety, Luke Schenck, and Mike Gallaher
for a second place finish in the 800 freestyle relay
(6:59.94). Gallaher also finished third in the 200 freestyle
(1:43.80) and Schenck was second in the 400 individual
medley (4:11.78).
