UD Women To Third Place Finish After Day One of Conference

One Women's Complete Results
ORONO, ME -- The University of
Delaware men's swimming and diving team, looking for its
fifth consecutive championship, is in second place and the
women's team is in third after the first day of the
three-day America East Swimming and Diving Championships at
the Stanley M. Wallace Pool in Orono.
The men's team, which has 187 points,
trails only Drexel with 269 points. In the 500-yard
freestyle, Delaware swimmers finished in the second through
fifth spots, as Kevin Weisser swam the race in
4:39.01, followed by Michael Gallaher (4:40.38),
Bryan Kahner (4:44.51), and Nick Grossman
(4:47.14).
Tim Wasiewski finished fourth in
the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.23, and
Lavar Larks finished seventh in the 1-meter diving
with a score of 228.00.
The women's team, looking for its first
title since winning back to back titles in 1996 and 1997,
recorded 152 points on the day and trails only Northeastern
(220) and Boston University (158).
The women were paced by sophomore
Sandy Stephens, who won the 200-yard individual
medley in a time of 2:07.51. Freshman standout Meghan
Petry finished second in the 500-yard freestyle, and the
400-yard medley relay team of Jenna Blongiewicz,
Stephens, Kathryn Fryer, and Jennifer
Haus placed second with a time of 3:55.03.
The championships will continue Saturday
and Sunday in Orono.
